The characterful café and sponsor of the Dartmouth Food Festival, first opened its doors on the 1st of April 1994 serving top quality breakfasts and lunches in a relaxed, intimate setting with a warm and friendly welcome. Little has changed since, although it’s now possible for customers to linger even longer – Alf’s is open from 7am til 2pm all year round, is available in the evenings for private parties and offers overnight accommodation in five beautifully designed rooms, with breath-taking views of the River Dart.
The 25th birthday celebrations will begin at Café Alf Resco on Monday 1st April from 7am, with the classic Alf’s Breakfast and coffee available all day at 1994 prices. There will be birthday cake, bubbles, a chance to spot yourselves in our photo memory books and, in keeping with Alf’s legendary ethos, absolutely everyone is welcome.
The celebrations will continue throughout the coming year with a variety of events and fundraising activities planned to support groups within the local community.
Café owner Kate Ryder said: “Over the past 25 years we have achieved so much and have made so many happy memories. We have been privileged to be a part of so many special events that have happened in people’s lives. Weddings, engagements and birthdays, we have seen them all!
“The people who make up the community of Dartmouth are very dear to us. They are the reason we have been here for 25 years and it is important to us that we give back.”
Events already in the calendar include a fundraising supper for the Classic Channel Regatta youth sailing project; complimentary breakfast on Tuesday 9th April for anyone over the age of 80 as part of Alf’s Respect the Aged Day; an afternoon tea on Easter Saturday to raise funds for Froward Point NCI Coastwatch Station in Kingswear; a fundraising supper and quiz in aid of Dartmouth Green Partnerships on 14th June as well as of course supporting the Dartmouth Food Festival in October.
Kate Ryder said: “The past 25 years have been a blast with so many memories and highlights, not forgetting winning double gold at the International Marmalade Festival and Best Granola in the National Breakfast Awards! We are excited to be celebrating this special anniversary and look forward to another 25 years at the heart of the Dartmouth community.”
