At the Festival you’ll get a chance to sample some of the best food and drinks in the Southwest, so come along with an appetite!
From stations South as far as Penzance and stations North as far as London, Edinburgh and Glasgow, take the First Great Western line to Totnes. (You can save money if you book with The Trainline.) Then you'll need a taxi. (Currently about 30 mins and £20). Alternatively take the First Great Western train to Paignton and catch a historic steam train to Kingswear Station and cross the River Dart by passenger ferry into Dartmouth.
Why not make it an adventure and come to Dartmouth by boat. If you fancy a day trip, you can board passenger boats to Dartmouth from Brixham, Torquay, Paignton and Salcombe. Contact Greenway Ferries or Dartmouth Steam Railway and River Boat Company. If you're sailing or power boating, we have the safest harbour with good facilities for visitors in the harbour. Contact Dart Harbour. Dartmouth has some of the best marina's in the UK - all with excellent shore facilities and all within ferry/walking distance of the town centre. The Nearest airport is Exeter. Then you'll need a taxi. (Currently about 50 mins and £50)
SAT NAV: Aim for postcode TQ6 9PS. This brings you to the town centre, next to the Boat Float, the town's protected inner harbour.
From the North
From London, take the M4 West to the M5 or take the A303 South to the M5.
From Wales, the Midlands and the Northwest, make your way South to the end of the M5.
Then continue on to the the A38.
Carry on South until you come to the Buckfastleigh turnoff. Take the exit.
Turn Left to the A385 to Totnes. Skip to... From Totnes.
From the South
Drive North on the A38, carry on until you see the turnoff signposted "Paignton". Take the exit. Turn right through the roundabouts on to the A385.
Follow the A385 to Shinner's Bridge, where it bears right towards Totnes. Skip to... From Totnes.
Coming into Totnes, you'll pass by King Edward VI Community College and pass under a pedestrian footbridge (watch out for the 30mph speed camera!). 50 yards on, stop at the traffic lights.
At the Totnes traffic lights, turn RIGHT on to the A381 towards Plymouth.
Drive (slowly) through the pretty village of Harberton Ford.
Continue to Halwell. At the Petrol Station, turn sharp LEFT on the A3122 towards Dartmouth. Follow this road all the way, but stop before you drive into the River Dart.
From Torquay and Paignton follow signs for Dartmouth. Follow the A379 until it becomes Dartmouth Road.
From Brixham head out on the A3022 towards Dartmouth.
Look for Gliddon's Car sales, turn into Kennels Road, signposted to Kingswear and Dartmouth (via Ferry).
Follow this road, which becomes Bridge Road, to the Hillhead roundabout, where you turn right towards Kingswear and Dartmouth (via Ferry). 200 yards past the roundabout, you get to choose – Left Fork for the Lower Ferry, Right Fork for the Higher Ferry. Both ferries take you to the centre of Dartmouth.
