Tim Holt

Tim Holt is Regional Sales Director and Ambassador of top quality Sherry producer Bodegas Barbadillo in Sanlucar de Barrameda, Spain.

Tim was born in Oxford in 1964 and educated at Eton and Edinburgh University where he studied Ecological Sciences. He initially got involved in cattle ranching both in Australia and Argentina and even crocodile and fish farming in Kenya where he researched on more efficient methods of farming Tilapia.

Eventually he switched to the drinks industry and was involved with the Sherry business from an early stage when he worked in the UK for IDV (now Diageo) who owned Croft Sherry at the time. The opportunity to work in Spain came in 1990 when he was offered a position with a small Sherry producer in Sanlucar, and has since then been closely involved with all aspects of the Sherry business. Tim joined Barbadillo in 2011 with whom he has been developing the Asia Pacific region as well looking after business in the UK and other countries. He is also closely involved in the development of the top end Sherries.

Outside the Sherry world Tim has an active interest in the local wildlife of the area. Sanlucar is the gateway to Europe’s largest nature reserve, the Coto Doñana, and he has in the past helped in bird population censuses and has led birdwatching excursions in the area. He is also both a keen sailor and surfer, taking advantage of Sanlucar’s advantageous position on the Atlantic coast.
