Rebecca Mitchell

Rebecca Mitchell DipWSET is a wine expert and certified sommelier with 21 years of wine trade experience - she consults for the UK on-trade, creating bespoke wine lists for hotels and restaurants in the South West of England. Most recently Rebecca has been the Head Sommelier at 2* Michelin Gidleigh Park Hotel where she managed one of the most extensive wine cellars in the country and selected wine pairings for ten course taster menus created by executive head chef Michael Wignall.

Rebecca is a certified wine educator for the Wine & Spirit Education Trust and enjoys teaching WSET wine qualifications and running informal wine workshops.She writes a monthly wine column for Devon Life magazine and also writes tasting notes for World Duty Free at the Eurotunnel in Calais.

Her wine career began in 1996 at Chateau Pichon-Lalande in Bordeaux, France and she has travelled globally through her previous work in wine tourism. Rebecca has met many award-winning wine producers worldwide and has also worked at wineries in France and New Zealand. Other countries of particular interest are the wines of Germany, Austria, South Africa and South America.

She enjoys hosting wine tastings at her sister’s restaurant Rendezvous Wine Bar, in Exeter plus wine events for private and corporate clients. Rebecca is the wine tutor at the Ashburton Cookery School in Devon where she shares her passion for food and wine matching with students on the Chefs Academy programme.

Keen on natural wines from organic and biodynamic vineyards and a wine ambassador for the South West Vineyards Association. Rebecca has previously worked for a regional wine wholesaler and national wine importer.

Rebecca is a panel chair and wine judge for the International Wine & Spirit Competition, International Wine Challenge and the South West Vineyards Association. She also regularly hosts tasting events at various food festivals including the Exeter Food & Drink Festival, Ashburton Food Festival, Dartmouth Food Festival and the Winchester Wine Festival.
