Mark Diacono

Mark Diacono feels "lucky enough to spend most of my time eating, growing, writing and talking about food". 

At his smallholding, Otter Farm, he grows unusual and forgotten food along with the best of the familiar. There are kiwis, sweet cicely, chocolate vines, Japanese wineberries and Vietnamese coriander, orchards of pecans, quince, almonds, Szechuan pepper and apricots, as well as a forest garden, a vineyard and a perennial garden.

Mark has written seven award winning books, including A Year at Otter Farm which won Andre Simon Food Book of the Year 2014, and A Taste of the Unexpected which won the Guild of Food Writers’ Food Book of the Year 2011.

As well as planting and maintaining the farm's orchards, vineyards, forest garden and veg patch, he also designs edible gardens – everything from classic kitchen gardens to container gardens to forest gardens. He'll work at any scale, from designing the kitchen garden at River Cottage HQ, to an Islington forest garden, to a courtyard of raised beds to this year’s new kitchen garden at Otter Farm.
